Course Category: Science
Everything from preschool fun to high school AP and honors classes with labs! Our sciences cover all disciplines, from earth science to astrophysics. Science classes not part of our classical arc are intended to be completely hands-on: If(space) day is always experiment day!
This will be a hands-on class where students learn about chemistry, study the properties of matter and how matter interacts with energy. There will be class activities, discussions, and lots of messy exciting fun as we study the general science of chemistry and how scientists use it in their professions.
This science unit centers around the children who enroll! During the first session we will compile activities based on what the children are interested in, with teacher guidance. All of the subsequent activities will be hands-on and vary from week to week.

During this class we will learn about different classifications of animals and insects, and the importance of each one in our world. We will talk about how certain species have been put on the endangered species list and how we can help protect them. This unit will include studying about manatees, bees, monarch butterflies, the Amur Leopard, and orangutans, just to name a few. We will use materials from the World Wildlife Fund to guide this unit.
We will be studying a wide range of wild animals, from semi-domesticated farm animals to animals of the rain forest. We will explore the different classifications of animals, as well as engage in a variety of hands-on projects that coincide with the children’s interest in specific animals.

In this class we learn about kinetic energy and how we can use it to make a variety of structures. Some kinetic sculptures are made specifically as art pieces, while some serve very specific mechanical purposes. We will explore both of these, and create several kinetic sculptures/towers/machines based on what we learn.
